There has been a wrongful death lawsuit filed regarding the death of a man, Kyle Kirchhoff, who fatally fell while attending a concert at the Aragon Ballroom.
The accident was discussed in the Chicago Sun-Times article of May 24, 2015, titled “Man dies after falling from catwalk during concert at Aragon Ballroom,” which discusses the fatal accident the happened on May 22, 2015 when Kyle Kirchhoff and a group of friends at a concert walked through an unlocked door that they thought went to a balcony. Instead, according to the lawsuit, the staircase led to a poorly lit catwalk.
The accident and lawsuit is discussed both in the March 25, 2016 Daily Herald article titled “Mother of Bartlett man who died at concert sues Aragon Ballroom” as well as the March 18 Cook County Record article titled “Deadly accident at concert at the Aragon Ballroom leads to lawsuit.”
As seen in an excerpt from the Daily Herald article:
Kirchhoff fell about four feet from an elevated portion of the catwalk to the floor where there were cords, wooden planks and protruding metal rods.
An autopsy conducted by the Cook County medical examiner determined Kirchhoff died of “blunt penetrating trauma of the chest” from falling onto the protruding metal rods.
The lawsuit argues The Aragon should have known the dimly lit catwalk and protruding metal rods presented danger and the door leading to the catwalk should have been locked.
Additional details regarding this premises liability lawsuit can be seen in a variety of media sources, including those mentioned above.
