Brain Injuries Experienced In Two Recent Chicago Area Accidents

Serious brain injuries can happen in a variety of accidents.  There are a range of brain injuries that vary in their severity and impact on one’s short- and long-term health.  While concussions are common head injuries, there are many conditions that can accompany concussions that are serious in nature and can have long-lasting health impacts.  This is especially so if one suffers many concussions, as well as if one concussion closely follows another.

One of the serious medical conditions that can accompany a head impact is bleeding on the brain.  A recent Evanston car collision led to a man having bleeding on the brain.  The accident is summarized in the January 22, 2017 post titled “Single-Car Crash In Evanston Injures Three Men.”

An excerpt:

The 28-year-old passenger was the most seriously injured and suffered brain bleeding, police said.

Another recent Chicago-area accident in which a fatal head injury occurred happened during a bicycle accident in Barrington.  That accident was discussed in a variety of media sources including the NBC Chicago article of January 16, 2017 article titled “Boy, 12, Dies After Barrington Bicycle Accident.”

Worker Fatally Falls From Refrigeration Unit At Crest Hill Facility

Illinois workplace accidents happen for a variety of reasons.  Accident causes include lack of supervision; lack of focus on safety; poor employee training; lack of communication; unsafe work conditions; defective equipment; and improper and/or inadequate tools.  Many of these causes can be traced back to poor management practices and/or attempts to save money.

However, there are many other reasons that can play a role in whether an employee is injured or killed while working.  Many fatal workplace accidents seem avoidable.

As with any accident in which someone has been hurt or fatally injured, a qualified personal injury lawyer can determine if there was negligence involved and whether accident injury compensation may be attainable.  Depending upon the specifics of the accident, the filing of a personal injury lawsuit may be appropriate.  In the case of a fatal accident, the filing of a wrongful death suit may be warranted.

There was a fatal work accident Friday (January 13, 2017) in Crest Hill.  Details on the accident appear limited at this time.

According to preliminary information, the accident involved an electrician (Brian Cummings, 60, of Des Plaines) falling off of a refrigeration unit.  He fell 40 feet.  He was pronounced dead after being taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

The accident happened within Rich Products.

Additional details and possible updates regarding this fatal Illinois workplace accident can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the January 14, 2017 The Herald-News article titled “Worker dies after 40-foot fall at Crest Hill manufacturing facility” as well as the January 14 Joliet Patch article titled “Fatal Fall:  Electrician Killed In 40-foot Plunge.”

Trip & Fall Accident Lawsuit

On this site there have been a number of injuries discussed that can be considered “trip and fall” accidents.  These accidents are seen in posts listed in the “slip and fall” category.

Many of these accidents and their injuries have to do with deteriorating infrastructure, including improperly maintained sidewalks.  Sidewalks that are crumbling and/or otherwise uneven can cause people to trip and fall.

A recent lawsuit regarding such an accident in Alton – in which a man allegedly tripped on a hole in the sidewalk while jogging, causing him to fall – is discussed in the Madison Record article of January 7, 2017, titled “Jogger sues City of Alton over hole in sidewalk.”

Two excerpts regarding the personal injury lawsuit and its claims of negligence:

Christopher Everage filed a complaint on Dec. 23, in the Madison County Circuit Court against the City of Alton, alleging the municipal corporation breached its duty to maintain the sidewalk in a reasonably safe condition.

also:

The plaintiff alleges the City of Alton failed to inspect and repair the hole on the sidewalk and failed to barricade or otherwise warn users of the sidewalk.

The lawsuit claims various injuries and other harm stemming from the accident.

Additional details and possible updates can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Madison Record article mentioned above.
