Dangerous infrastructure has been discussed extensively on this site. Many injuries and deaths have been caused by allegedly negligent maintenance of infrastructure. As well, flawed design and/or installation can also cause infrastructure to be unsafe.
Infrastructure includes such things as sidewalks, light poles, utility poles, streets, sewers, buildings, bus shelters, and bridges. Infrastructure that is unsafe poses a threat to people in that it can cause injury or death.
Dangerous infrastructure can cause Injuries that require medical care. This medical care can include hospitalization, diagnostic tests, surgeries, follow-up medical care and rehabilitation. In many instances lawsuits are filed against the person, company, or other entity (such as a city, county or state) that owns the infrastructure and has been negligent in its installation or maintenance.
Personal injury lawsuits are filed for various reasons. These lawsuits typically seek injury compensation for medical costs, impairments, pain and suffering, any lost wages, and other difficulties caused by the injuries.
In cases where a person is killed either immediately or later dies from accident injuries, wrongful death lawsuits may be filed.
On Thursday (November 21, 2019) there was an accident in Chicago’s Loop involving a light pole that fell on a woman. The light pole fell over and struck the woman near LaSalle and Lake Street. The woman was injured.
This accident is discussed in a variety of media sources, including the November 21, 2019 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “Light pole falls on woman in the Loop.”
The 47-year-old was walking on the sidewalk when the pole toppled over, striking her on the head, back and knocking her to the ground, police said.
She suffered lacerations to her head and knee, police said. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where her condition was stabilized.
