Notably, the two accidents happened within roughly two hours of each other.

The first accident was a pedestrian accident that happened at 1:44 p.m., and involved a 69-year-old female pedestrian who was struck by a car while she was walking in the crosswalk.

The woman was thrown several feet and was not responsive afterwards, according to a witness who works on the block.

The pedestrian was taken to Lutheran General Hospital for treatment of her accident injuries, and was reported to be in serious condition.

Recent Chicago Pedestrian Accidents

Recently, there have been a number of fatal Chicago pedestrian accidents.  Some of these involved “hit & run” drivers.

Pedestrian accidents are further discussed on the “Illinois Pedestrian Accidents” page.  This page cites various statistics, as well as provides tips with regard to pedestrian safety.

It should be noted that at least one of the recent Chicago fatal pedestrian accidents happened as the pedestrians were walking in a crosswalk.  Unfortunately, just because a pedestrian is in a crosswalk does not necessarily guarantee safety.  As mentioned on the Illinois Pedestrian Accidents page mentioned above,  pedestrian accidents in Chicago often occur at intersections even when people are crossing the street with the “walk signal.”  The accidents occur when the drivers fail to yield to the pedestrians.

As stated on the page:

If one is involved in a pedestrian accident, there are many steps that one should take – including getting a thorough medical examination by a qualified medical professional, as well as protecting one’s legal rights and attaining appropriate injury (and other harm) compensation.  Often, people choose to retain a qualified personal injury attorney to seek maximum compensation for injuries sustained in a pedestrian accident.
