Two Recent Illinois Work Accidents Result In Fatalities

In the first accident, which occurred on Saturday (May 13, 2017) afternoon, a man died after a commercial mower fell onto him.  The man, who was identified as Richard L. Bowden, 62, died as a result of the accident.  The accident occurred at the Green Acres Country Club in Northbrook.

Man Dies Following Work Accident In Lake Zurich, Illinois

Chicago Fatal Work Accident Involving Trench Collapse

There was a fatal work accident Monday afternoon (February 13, 2017) on Chicago’s Northwest Side.  The worker was an employee of the City’s Water Management Department.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, the accident happened at approximately 1:10 p.m., in the 6000 block of North Sauganash Avenue, which is near Sauganash Avenue and Keeler Avenue, just north of Peterson Avenue.

The accident involved a worker who was injured when the trench he was working in collapsed.

The worker, identified as Konrad Tucharski, 40, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition.  According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, he was declared dead at 1:49 p.m.

At the time of the trench collapse, Tucharski was working on a sewer replacement project.

Worker Fatally Falls From Refrigeration Unit At Crest Hill Facility

Man Dies Following Workplace Accident In Monee

There was a fatal workplace accident Tuesday (July 5, 2016) in Monee.  The accident happened at an Advanced Mobility manufacturing facility.

According to authorities, the accident involved a worker who was crushed to death as he was working underneath a semi trailer.  When a fellow worker pierced a hydraulic line, the trailer on which the worker was working suddenly dropped a foot or two.

The worker under the trailer sustained injuries to his chest and lower extremities, according to the Monee Fire Protection District Chief.

The worker was identified as Leo Micheletto, 58, of Frankfort.

Paramedics performed advanced life-support measures at the scene, Nieland said, and the man was transported to Franciscan St. James Health hospital in Olympia Fields where he died before a helicopter could transport him to a trauma center in Chicago.

An autopsy found he died of multiple blunt-force injuries from an industrial accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Fatal Workplace Accident In Plainfield

There was a fatal workplace accident early Thursday (June 23, 2016) in Plainfield.  The accident involved a worker being fatally injured involving an accident with a steel baler.

According to Plainfield Police, they responded to the call regarding a workplace accident shortly after 1:30 a.m.  The accident occurred at Coilplus, Inc. and involved the worker being caught in a steel baler.

The worker was identified as Carlos Rivera, 50, of Joliet.   According to the Will County Coroner’s Office, he was pronounced dead at the accident scene at 2:15 a.m.

An autopsy determined that Rivera died from multiple injuries sustained in the accident.

OSHA has opened an investigation regarding this fatal accident.

Fatal Work Accident At Chicago Industrial Plant

There was a fatal Illinois workplace accident Monday morning (April 11, 2016) in Chicago’s South Deering neighborhood.

According to authorities, this accident happened in a scrap yard at Napuck Salvage of Waupaca, a scrap yard industrial plant in the 11600 block of South Burley.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., a worker got his arm trapped in a conveyor belt.

The worker was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, the man lost his arm during the accident and likely died from blood loss and shock.

This fatal accident remains under investigation.

Fatal Workplace Accident In Chicago Heights

According to OSHA and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the accident involved a worker, identified as Eric Schneider, 37, of Homer Glen, being hit in the head by an RV panel as he worked in a trailer.

Schneider, who lived in the 13800 block of Hiawatha Court in Homer Glen, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 9:15 p.m. Friday, according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy found he died of compressional injures from a workplace accident.

The accident remains under investigation by OSHA.
