There were two accidents within the same crosswalk Thursday afternoon (July 23, 2015) in downtown Des Plaines. The crosswalk is on Miner Street in front of the Sugar Bowl Restaurant.
Notably, the two accidents happened within roughly two hours of each other.
The first accident was a pedestrian accident that happened at 1:44 p.m., and involved a 69-year-old female pedestrian who was struck by a car while she was walking in the crosswalk.

The woman was thrown several feet and was not responsive afterwards, according to a witness who works on the block.
The pedestrian was taken to Lutheran General Hospital for treatment of her accident injuries, and was reported to be in serious condition.
The second accident was a bicycle accident that involved a car hitting two 13-year-old girls who were riding their bicycles across the crosswalk at approximately 4:00 p.m. The windshield of the car was shattered by the impact with one of the girls. One of the girls suffered a skull fracture injury; the other girl suffered a fractured clavicle.
According to the Daily Herald article of July 24, 2015, titled “Two cited in Des Plaines crashes that happened within hours of each other” the driver of the first accident, an 88-year old woman, “was cited for driving on an expired license and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a roadway…” The driver in the second accident, a 32-year-old woman, “was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a roadway and failure to exercise due caution.”
