Lawsuit Regarding Accident Injuries After Woman Falls Into Manhole

On this site, many injuries and accidental deaths (as well as any associated lawsuit) that have been caused by unsafe infrastructure have been discussed.   There are many types of unsafe infrastructure…some of these types include potholes, broken sidewalks, falling light poles, rusting traffic signal poles, and various types of defective structures such as unsafe bus shelters, failing roofs, and unsafe train shelters.

Many injuries that are caused by deficient infrastructure require hospitalization, and it is common that follow-on medical care such as surgeries, tests, and subsequent rehabilitation will be required.  Some injuries are critical injuries that may lead to death, either immediately or at some later time.

One form of infrastructure that can pose a hazard is that of missing manhole covers.  If these manhole covers are missing or the manhole is not sufficiently covered, it can be a safety hazard to either pedestrians or drivers of vehicles that might drive over the manhole.

There has been a lawsuit filed over injuries caused by an allegedly insufficiently covered manhole.  The lawsuit is discussed in the Madison Record article of March 2, 2018 titled “Woman alleges injuries after falling into manhole in Belleville.”  An excerpt from the article, in which the plaintiff (Tamara Lewis) claims she fell into a manhole in Carlyle Plaza in Belleville:

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 1, 2017, she was walking across the rear of Carlyle Plaza’s commercial property when she stepped on a plywood covering that broke, causing her to fall into a manhole.

As a result, Lewis claims she sustained severe, extensive and permanent injuries both internally and externally and was caused to suffer great pain, mental anguish and medical expenses.

Additional details concerning the potential for accident injuries due to unsafe infrastructure can be seen in the sources mentioned above.
