On this site, many injuries and deaths (as well associated lawsuits) that have been caused by alleged negligent maintenance of unsafe infrastructure have been discussed. In most instances, these accidents and accompanying injuries are caused because the infrastructure (including sidewalks, streets, sewers, buildings, bus shelters, etc.) has not been properly maintained. An unsafe condition can develop, which can cause injuries, some of which can be life-threatening to those who have been hurt.
Many of these injuries require hospitalization as well as follow-up medical care, such as tests, surgeries, and rehabilitation. In many instances lawsuits are filed against the person, company, or other entity (such as a city or state) that owns the infrastructure and has been negligent in its maintenance and/or operation. These lawsuits typically seek compensation for medical costs, impairments, pain and suffering, any lost wages, and other adversities caused by the injuries.
There was a lawsuit filed against the Village of Bethalto over an alleged incident in which a woman tripped and fell on a sidewalk.
The lawsuit and alleged injuries are discussed on the April 25, 2018 Madison Record article titled “Woman sues Bethalto over sidewalk trip, fall.” An excerpt:
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on May 12, 2017, Bonnie Coleman was using the public sidewalk located on Woodcrest Drive when she tripped and fell over reinforcement steel used in a concrete manhole.
Coleman claims she sustained severe and permanent injuries that prevented her from attending to her usual duties and affairs. She also claims she has suffered great pain, mental anguish and incurred medical expenses.
Additional details regarding the lawsuit, including claims regarding how the Village was negligent, can be seen in the article.
