Beach Park Toxic Cloud Results In Many People Being Seriously Injured

People being seriously injured by the negligence of others often seek to get injury compensation for the injuries and other harm that has occurred. As seen on this site, people being seriously injured can have many lasting impairments and other ill-effects stemming from an injury.

A personal injury lawsuit is often filed by a personal injury lawyer to get injury compensation. This injury compensation is often needed to help cover medical expenses – which, depending on the type of injury, can be (very) large – as well as other financial issues and hardships that can result from the injury, such as lost wages. In addition, there are various other reasons for getting injury compensation.

An April 25, 2019 incident in Beach Park resulted in many people being seriously injured and hospitalized. The incident involved a chemical spill of anhydrous ammonia that created a toxic cloud. The ammonia was being transported by a tractor.

The incident is discussed in various media sources, including the April 25, 2019 Lake County Sheriff’s Office media release titled “Message from Sheriff John Idleburg Regarding the Beach Park Incident.” An excerpt:

“Today, approximately 140 first-responders responded to an active incident, to keep our community safe.  The spill of anhydrous ammonia had a major impact on the people of Beach Park and surrounding communities.  The Lake County Sheriff’s Office worked diligently with Fire and Village officials to notify the community of the danger as quick as we possibly could.

The latest report we have is 37 members of our community required transport to an area hospital, after breathing in the toxic fumes.  This includes 11 firefighters, two deputies, and one police officer.  One of those firefighters, along with six other members of the community are currently in critical condition.

The chemical spill occurred near the intersection of North Green Bay Road and East 29th Street.

An excerpt regarding the chemical spill that resulted in people being seriously injured and hospitalized, from the April 25 NBC Chicago article with video titled “Beach Park Chemical Spill Prompts Hazmat Response…“:

Anhydrous ammonia is a colorless gas with “pungent, suffocating fumes,” per the CDC, which said it can cause difficulty breathing, chest pain, burns and more, becoming potentially fatal at high concentrations.
