Pit Bull Attack In Chicago’s Chatham Neighborhood

Dog attacks remain a significant regional as well as national problem.  As seen in various posts found in the Illinois dog attacks category, Chicago area dog attacks can be vicious, and can lead to extensive, life-threatening injuries.  Some dog attacks have been fatal.  While the age range of those who have been attacked by dogs varies, often children – perhaps due to their size – are often victims.

Those who do survive serious dog attacks can have a significant need for injury compensation.  This is because recovery from a severe dog attack can require extensive medical care, physical rehabilitation, and possibly plastic surgery.  Other costs, such as treating emotional distress, may also be substantial.

A recent Chicago dog attack serves as an example of a vicious dog attack.  The attack happened in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood (far South Side) on Saturday, September 19, 2015.

According to Chicago Police, the attack happened in the 100 block of East 90th Street at approximately 2:00 p.m.

The attack involved a pit bull “getting loose” and biting the leg of an 8-year-old boy.  A 48-year-old man tried to intervene, and he was bit by the dog, suffering multiple injuries, including to his face, chest, and both legs.

Both the man and boy were taken to MetroSouth Medical Center for treatment of their accident injuries.

An excerpt from the September 20, 2015 Chicago Sun-Times article titled “8-year-old boy, man attacked by pit bull in Chatham“:

The owner of the pit bull, a 73-year-old woman who lives on the same block, was cited for failure to restrain the dog and no dog license.

Additional details and possible updates can be seen in a variety of media sources, including the Chicago Sun-Times article mentioned above, as well as the September 20 NBC Chicago article titled “8-Year-Old Boy, Man Attacked by Dog in Chatham.”
